SPHERIX, a.k.a. Josh Lamaro is one of Australia’s rising stars on the Dubstep circuit. Hailing from Melbourne, Josh has a unique sound, influenced heavily by minimal and dub techno. He has had numerous releases on respected international labels including, Tube 10, Bare Dubs, Subcontinental Dub and On The Edge Records, as well as forthcoming releases on Immerse and 3.5 Recordings. After his early experiments with the piano and sampling, Josh’s first foray into electronic music production was with Drum and Bass in the late 1990’s. Influenced by the stripped down aesthetic of the Tech-Step style, Josh drew influence from the early productions of Ed Rush and Optical and later began incorporating his early love of minimal techno, dub and hip hop into his production which informed where his sound is today. What resulted was a much slower and more inclusive sound than his early productions which eventually began being associated with what had become known as Dubstep.

His early collaborations with London Dubstep producer Luke Envoy, opened the way for a wealth of ideas being developed concurrently in the Dubstep scene in London. This experience and exposure to some of the biggest producers in Dubstep helped polish the ideas and attitudes Josh’s music was looking to address. Over the following few years the Spherix sound has developed as a distinctive one, clearly expressing all the early influences of Minimal and Dub Techno, as well as Drum and Bass into the one unique sound.
